Week 6: Dear AP Psych Student...

Image
Well, this is it. My last blog post, and the last grade of the year. It's been a great year. I learned a lot, had fun, and I know I did well on the AP Test . My advice for anyone taking AP Psych in the future is to DO THE VOCAB!!! I cannot stress how important this is. The tests are based entirely on the vocab, and if you do not do it your chances of doing well are slim to none. For the first three tests, I did the vocab and ended up getting a really good grade. However, I did not do the vocab for the last two tests and I ended up almost failing them. Do your vocab before every test, and do not wait until the last night to do it. Actually follow the study plans she gives you. The most fun activity all semester was the play-doh brain project. For this project, we spent two days building an accurate brain out of play-doh, and it was lots of fun. It was also a really good way for us to learn all the structures of the brain, as Ms. Halfen explained the function of each structure as w

Week 4: How Good Is Your Memory?

Image
Test 1: Verbal Memory Test For the first test, I completed the Verbal Memory Test. For this test, there were three stages. In the first stage, I had to rate a series of 40 words either very pleasant, mildly pleasant, mildly unpleasant, or very unpleasant. In stage 2, I had 40 blank lines and had to remember as many words as I could. In stage 3, I was given 40 questions where they gave me 2 words and I had to identify which word was in the original series of words. My recall score was 6 and my recognition score was 38. Both scores are reported to be exactly average for a healthy person. I was kind of surprised by this because I usually have an above average memory. However, I did not know that I needed to remember the words for a recall test, so that may have affected my score. Test 2: Short-Term Memory Test The second test I did was the Short-Term Memory Test. This test worked by giving me a list of 12 words to memorize. After looking at the words, I was given 12 blanks to writ

Week 3: The Rockets' Rise to Greatness

Image
This year, the Houston Rockets were the best team in the NBA. Many may try to dispute it, but you will be hard-pressed to find an argument that holds much substance. The team's rise to dominance began in the 2017 offseason, when All Star Point Guard Chris Paul  decided he had been through enough as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. His 7 years spent on a team that was truly a disappointment was seriously taxing on his self esteem. He spent years trying to make the best of a team that at one point included two other All Stars in their prime but they never made it past the second round of the playoffs. This increasing frustration with the team and coaching staff led him to give the front office an ultimatum: they would trade him to the Houston Rockets or he would opt out of his contract and sign with the Rockets as a free agent. Thus, on June 28, 2017, Paul was traded to the Rockets. Initially, this interested many people in the league but it did not do much to worry any co

Week 2: Personality Tests

Jung Typology Test I ntrovert(16%)   S ensing(16%)   T hinking(6%)   P erceiving(44%) You have slight preference of Introversion over Extraversion (16%) You have slight preference of Sensing over Intuition (16%) You have slight preference of Thinking over Feeling (6%) You have moderate preference of Perceiving over Judging (44%) I found the results of this test to be fairly accurate. I consider myself to be a bit more introverted than extroverted, as I only really talk to people I know and am pretty shy with strangers. Also, I like to act in the moment, which corresponds with the preference of sensing over intuition. I also am pretty balanced in feeling and thinking, which I feel is accurate. Overall, I felt that this was a good test. Accident Proneness Test According to the accident proneness test, I am 58% sensation seeking. This means that I am in between liking constant stimulus and wanting everything to be the same. I guess this makes sense because while I enjoy so

Week 1: My Life Story

Image
I was born June 25th, 2001 in  Woodbury, Minnesota  to Adriana Paiva and Simon Sanchez. My older brother, Andres, who is four years older than me, was initially not very thrilled with my birth, but he eventually accepted the role of the older brother. However, like any good older sibling, he made sure to annoy me the most he could. For example, as I was learning to walk and taking my first steps, my brother would stick his leg out and trip me, then act like it was an accident! While this may sound terrible, he is a good brother and would do it out of love. For the first six years of my life, I lived in Woodbury. I really liked Minnesota. The cold winters provided lots of snow, and I would always have lots of fun playing around in it. One of my favorite memories from these early years is from April 2006, when we got Yoda, our family dog. In October of 2006, when I was just starting first grade, my family took a  big step that would significantly change our lives. We moved to Houston b
